We’ll bring you the home wifi mesh test of the Mikrotik Audience. WiFi MESH systems Performance Test In live environment This product is the dedicated home wifi mesh solution of the vendor and it seems that they focused on the design really well. The Audience has only one kind of unit, which can be both a router and a mesh unit. It has 2x Gigabit LAN ports, 1x 2,4GHz and 1x 5GHz 2×2 MIMO radios plus a 5GHz 4×4 MIMO radio for the mesh connection. The box contains the basic jack plug PSU. We used the Mikrotik mobile app for setup, which took us 2 minutes. It is not necessary to use the app to add more mesh points, you just have to push the sync button for pairing.
We concluded our test in a large, downtown flat with thick walls and a lot of wifi interference. Our aim was to simulate a home user scenario so we opted for doing the least amount of config in the shortest time possible. Let’s see the results: the first test was close to the router where we measured 224 Mbps with the speedtest app then we used a laptop to measure with Iperf and we reached 322/217 Mbps. The second test scenario is 3 rooms away from the router where we installed the mesh unit. We measured 93,1 Mbps with the speed test app, and 114/141 Mbps with Iperf. Then we connected the laptop to the mesh unit via cable and did another Iperf test which resulted in 139/146 Mbps.
The test showed us that the 4×4 connection between the units is really capable and the users can benefit from this. We were also surprised by how much Mikrotik’s mobile app improved over the years, which made the setup really easy. This was the home wifi mesh test of the Mikrotik Audience.
