Is an HDMI Cable Only for HD?

High-Definition Multimedia Interface or HDMI is the technology, which has brought better communication between a number of different devices and could be used to connect computers, laptops, notebooks, Blu-ray players, DVD players, and gaming consoles to computer monitors, video projectors, or HDMI-enabled TV sets. Unlike the DVI cables, the HDMI cables transport not only video, but also audio, and the latest, 1.4 version come even with Ethernet channel, audio return channel, 4K × 2K Resolution Support, and 3D over HDMI support. However, despite its name, HDMI is not only for high definition video, but supports any uncompressed PC or TV video format, and this includes standard and enhanced video.

The first prototype Blu-Ray Disc players were released in 2003 and then officially released three years later, and are considered superior to the widely used DVD format. The Blu-Ray differs from the DVD technology in the way that the data is read – the DVD players use red laser with 650 nm wavelength, while the Blu-Ray players use blue-violet laser with shorter wavelength, which translates into better precision. This allows more data to be “crammed” into a disk, which is of the same size as the DVD disks, and a dual-layer Blu-Ray disc can contain up to 50GB of data.

HDMI Cables for PS3

The third generation Sony gaming console, the PS3, was released in 2006 and today is used by millions of gamers worldwide. It comes with 256MB system and 256MB graphic memory, SATA hard drive with either 20GB or 60GB capacity, BluRay optical drive, and Ethernet port. The console supports Bluetooth and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR and Bluetooth controllers, and five different resolutions, namely 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p. It also comes with Digital Optical Out and HDMI port, where the latter port allows you to use HDMI cables for PS3 and connect the console to large screen digital TV, video projectors, or computer screens.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) cables transmit uncompressed digital data between two devices, normally between computers, laptops, and gaming consoles and PC monitors, HDMI-enabled TV sets, and video projectors. If you want to play games on your Xbox or PS3, “hook” the console to your home theater, and enjoy superb audio and video quality, then using HDMI cables is one of the options that you can use.
